A MAN from Thailand paid 36 outstanding summonses worth RM5,780 after being arrested in the Operation for Outstanding Foreign Citizen Summonses (OTSWA) in Padang Besar, today.
Previously, the 30-year-old man from Hat Yai was believed to have frequently travelled in and out of Malaysia to bring tourists but had never paid the summonses imposed on him since the beginning of this year.
Padang Besar District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Shokri Abdullah said the matter was uncovered after an inspection of the Thai van he was driving during a five-day operation since Monday at the entrance and exit of the Padang Besar Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex.
“A check revealed that all the summonses were recorded this year, with the majority of the offences being driving above the speed limit.
"He entered and did business everywhere in Malaysia, when we conducted an operation and issued summonses, he evaded paying them.
"However, when he was arrested in this operation, he was ordered to pay all the summonses and if he failed to do so, his vehicle would be seized immediately. He then agreed to pay all the summonses," he told a press conference.
Overall, the operation successfully resolved 299 outstanding summonses totaling RM44,730, as a result of inspections of 420 vehicles owned by foreigners.
Mohd Shokri said the highest recorded offense was speeding with 237 cases, registration numbers not in accordance with regulations (25 cases), failure to comply with permit conditions (17 cases) and several other offenses including not possessing a valid driving license. - June 25, 2025
