KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia recorded 1,581 new cases of Covid-19 and two related deaths today, bringing the cumulative number of infections past the 100,000 mark.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country has seen 100,318 cases since the pandemic began, with 18,773 cases still active. Two of the new cases are imported.
In a press statement, he said the ministry has also registered 1,085 recoveries, raising the total number of those discharged to 81,099.
102 patients are under intensive care, with 45 cases requiring intubation.
Selangor saw the highest number of infections for the ninth day in a row with 491 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 379, and Sabah with 249.
Negri Sembilan saw 144 cases and Johor reported 115, followed by Melaka (76), Penang (37), Perak (26), Labuan (26) and Pahang (12).
Single-digit cases were seen in Kelantan (9), Terengganu (7), Putrajaya (4), Kedah (4), and Sarawak (2). Perlis was the only state to record zero cases.
The two deaths involved a 15-year-old teenager, whose body was brought to the Lahad Datu Hospital in Sabah, and a 61-year-old man, also in Sabah, whose body was brought to the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan.
A total of 468 clusters have been reported to date, including four new clusters today.
Dr Noor Hisham said 262 clusters have ended, including six that no longer have cases today, comprising the Kasir, Tomher MC, Utama, Rengas, Mampulut, and Haven clusters. – The Vibes, December 24, 2020
