THE Employees Provident Fund (EPF) is studying the government's proposal to introduce a monthly pension payment scheme for its members as contained in the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13).

The EPF said in a statement that any decision will only be made after a comprehensive engagement session with stakeholders and due consideration of the long-term interests of members.

"The EPF takes note of the government's consideration under the 13th Malaysia Plan to introduce a monthly pension payment scheme for members.

"For now, the EPF's rules and withdrawal mechanisms remain as they are. Any further information will be communicated through official channels from time to time," it said.

It was earlier reported that the RMK13 document mentioned that a new approach to the EPF 'will be explored'.

The government had previously announced that a better mechanism would be explored to guarantee continuous income after retirement, as adequate retirement savings are important for the welfare of aged workers.

In the RMK13 published by the Ministry of Economy, this mechanism will allow for the separation of EPF contributions into two components, namely retirement savings and retirement pensions. – August 1, 2025
