EVERY Malaysian citizen will be automatically registered as a member of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) upon reaching the age of 18.
Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that this measure is being implemented as part of the government's effort to strengthen the national social protection system, while also ensuring that citizens begin saving for retirement at an earlier stage.
Meanwhile, EPF members who reach the ages of 55 and 60 may opt for the i-Emas scheme to receive monthly withdrawals.
Under this scheme, members' remaining savings will stay within the EPF, offering the opportunity to earn dividends.
Stamp duty exemption for first-home loans
The government proposes granting a full stamp duty exemption on loan agreements and instruments of transfer for first homes priced up to RM500,000.
Anwar stated that for homes priced up to RM750,000, there will be a full stamp duty exemption on the first RM500,000 and a 50 per cent exemption on the remaining balance.
“This applies to sale and purchase agreements executed from 1 January 2027 to 31 December 2030,” he said.
He added that, in the move towards achieving zero abandoned housing projects by 2030, a full stamp duty exemption will be granted on loan agreements and instruments of transfer executed by rescue contractors or developers and original buyers.
“This exemption is effective from 1 January 2027 to 31 December 2030,” he said. – October 9, 2026
