ANY incidents involving the improper display of the Jalur Gemilang will be investigated professionally and responsibly by the police, affirmed Minister of Home Affairs Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail during a ministerial briefing in Parliament on Monday.
He emphasised that if investigations reveal malicious intent, appropriate legal action will be taken against those involved under the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963 or the Minor Offences Act 1955 (Act 336).
“If there is an offence, make a police report for investigation because if there is bad intent, we will prosecute… but if it is unnecessarily blown out of proportion to cause public unrest, that is not good for the country’s current situation,” Bernama quoted him saying.
Saifuddin urged all parties—including citizens, political leaders, and civil society—to play their part in maintaining peace and harmony.
On the issue of national security threats, he revealed that enforcement and defence agencies have heightened security measures as Malaysia remains a potential infiltration base for foreign agents, including those linked to Mossad and Israel.
“Enforcement agencies have swiftly apprehended individuals involved in terrorist activities, including locals, students, and public servants. Some are currently on trial, others remanded, and recently, terror cells involving foreigners from Bangladesh were also dismantled,” Saifuddin stated.
He warned that security threats persist, with the presence of extremists, terrorists, radical groups, and foreign agents around the country. “I state this based on facts,” he added.
Regarding the recent attack on the child of former Minister of Economy Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, Saifuddin confirmed police are providing security support to the family, with the child’s health under close medical observation.
“In terms of security, the police will do their utmost to provide protection… this is also to avoid the perception that cases involving ministers’ families receive faster police response than ordinary citizens,” he said.
Saifuddin’s briefing lasted nearly 30 minutes and was followed by debates from six Members of Parliament representing both government and opposition. He promised further clarifications during the upcoming closing speech on the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) debate for the ministry. - August 18, 2025
