THE final day of the Dewan Rakyat sitting sees a full agenda, with significant focus on the federal government’s infrastructure strategy and progress on affordable housing under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), alongside the tabling of two pivotal bills concerning gig workers and urban renewal.
According to the Parliament’s Order Paper, Jalaluddin Alias (BN–Jelebu) is scheduled to ask the Prime Minister during Minister’s Question Time whether infrastructure development projects are concentrated in certain states to the detriment of others. Datuk Ahmad Amzad Mohamed @ Hashim (PN–Kuala Terengganu) will also seek details on the number of affordable homes completed under the 12MP and the percentage of the target achieved to date.
In matters of financial accountability, Hassan Abdul Karim (PH–Pasir Gudang) is expected to press the Finance Minister for clarity on actions taken to address contract leakages that have led to billions of ringgit in public fund losses. Rushdan Rusmi (PN–Padang Besar) will query the Transport Minister regarding direct economic returns for border states such as Perlis, Kedah and Kelantan from daily cross-border trade and cargo flows with Thailand.
Chow Yu Hui (PH–Raub) is set to raise concerns with the Higher Education Minister about the Universiti Malaya’s Student Affairs Division, which allegedly interfered with student autonomy by appointing an advisor and imposing approval requirements for student-led activities.
On the issue of taxation and its societal impact, Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman (PN–Sik) will question the government on the effects of the revised Sales and Service Tax and new levies, including the digital tax, on lower-income households. He is also expected to ask about protective measures for B40 and M40 communities in rural areas.
Debate will also continue with the second reading of the Gig Workers Bill 2025 and the Urban Renewal Bill 2025. Both are seen as cornerstone legislation for the government’s socio-economic agenda. In addition, the Finance Minister will deliver his winding-up speech on the Government Procurement Bill 2025, which was debated by 20 Members of Parliament yesterday.
