GEORGE TOWN – The plight of a security guard and his family who have had to live in a car for the past eight months ended today when Ustaz Ebit Lew came to their rescue.
In a post on Facebook, Ebit said he was sad after reading the story of S. Ganesh, 34, his wife, M. Parameswary, 32, and their three children, aged between 6 and 8 months old, who have had to live in a car after their house was destroyed in a fire in April.
“I read this story while in Johor Baru and rushed to Penang to help. I feel sad because some people sleep soundly and eat well, while others literally live inside their cars,” said the preacher.
Ebit also shared pictures of him taking the family out to buy necessities. He also rented a house for them.
“I rented for the family a beautiful, comfortable house with three rooms. I will pay the rent for a month until they get a People’s Housing Project unit.
“But, if they want to continue staying there, I will happily continue to pay rent for them.”
The preacher also gifted the family with household items, such as a refrigerator, washing machine, television, rice cooker, stove, fans and beds.
“The couple are good people. Ganesh and his wife did not stop saying thank you and they cried.
“They asked me why (I am helping them) so many times, and they liked the house so much. I am happy to see the smiles of their cute children,” Ebit said.
The media had reported yesterday that Ganesh and his family have had to live in in a 20-year-old Proton Iswara after their house here was destroyed in a fire in April.
Ganesh had said that, every day, he would park the car under a shady place as temporary shelter and use public toilets across the city for bathing.
Parameswary, who gave birth to the couple’s third child eight months ago, has also had to confine herself in the car with the newborn. – The Vibes, December 25, 2020
