HEAVY rain triggered a fresh bout of foaming from soap residue left behind by a lorry spill last month, covering a 500-metre stretch of the Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS) and prompting motorists to mistake the unusual scene for ‘snow’.

Shah Alam District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Sarudin Samah said the foam appeared at about 3.10pm yesterday between KM30.0 and KM30.5, along the Klang-to-Kuala Lumpur stretch.

“When the spillage occurred, the Fire and Rescue Department took action by spreading sawdust along the soap residue that had spilled at the site.

“However, due to the heavy rain today, the remaining soap residue produced foam stretching for about 500 metres,” he said in a media statement on Thursday.

The original spill occurred on Aug 24, when the Fire and Rescue Department spread sawdust along the affected stretch to deal with the spilled soap.

Following yesterday’s foaming, the highway concessionaire launched a second round of cleaning works to remove the remaining residue.

Sarudin said the cleaning operation was completed at 4.58pm.

The incident later went viral on social media, with members of the public joking that the expressway had been covered in snow. - September 4, 2026
