KUALA LUMPUR – A total of 876, or 20%, of Orang Asli children aged 6 months to 6 years were underweight as of March.
The Health Ministry said these kids were placed under the Malnourished Children Rehabilitation Programme (PPKZM), with 246 of them having since gained weight and recovered.
On December 14, Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu (Bersatu-Tambun) asked the ministry about the programme, and received a written reply.
PPKZM was implemented by the government in 1989 to assist malnourished children, ensuring they receive basic nutrition and multivitamins.
Last year, under the Pakatan Harapan administration, the programme was enhanced to address the issue of malnutrition among Orang Asli children.
The Community Feeding Programme, meanwhile, was implemented in 2013 to provide supplementary food items and food baskets to the Orang Asli. – The Vibes, December 26, 2020
