THE Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) have launched investigations into two TikTok account holders over separate incidents involving alleged seditious content and the dissemination of false information that went viral on social media.
Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Bukit Aman, Datuk M Kumar, said the first case concerns a post related to the death of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir, while the second involves claims linking Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to Israel.
“Both account holders have been identified and are not connected to each other. Efforts to track down the individuals involved are currently underway,” he said in a statement issued yesterday.
Kumar confirmed that the investigation is being led by the Classified Crime Investigation Unit under Division D5 of the Bukit Aman CID.
The cases are being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
He warned that any individual found to be intentionally creating, uploading, sharing, or distributing seditious content, false information, or any material likely to cause public unrest or threaten social harmony will face stern action.
