KUALA LUMPUR – The authorities have ended the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) at Flat Desa Bistari, Batu Uban, Mukim 13 in Penang that was originally set to end on December 31.

In a statement today, Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the Health Ministry has completed screenings for all residents in the locality and that there are no pending results for the group.

“The Health Ministry have confirmed that the remaining positive Covid-19 cases in this locality is under control and has shown a downward trend.

“Based on the Health Ministry’s risk assessment and advice, the government has agreed to end the EMCO at Flat Desa Bistari, Batu Uban, Mukim 13, Timur Laut, Penang today on December 26, earlier than scheduled.”

In related news, the police have arrested 1,002 individuals for breaching the MCO standard operating procedures (SOP).

Out of the figure, 854 were issued compounds while 148 were remanded into custody. Some of the offences recorded include activities in entertainment centres (687), failure to comply with physical distancing (125), failure to wear face masks (69), failure to prepare equipment to record customers’ details (63), and others (58).

The SOP Task Force led by the police had made 49,603 inspections on Christmas 2020 and deployed 2,454 teams involving 10,632 personnel. They had monitored 3,579 shopping malls, 4,656 restaurants, 1,852 stalls, 1,118 factories, 3,314 banks, and 498 government offices.

Similarly, Malaysia’s border patrol operations had arrested 35 illegal migrants and seized three land vehicles.

Meanwhile, there are currently 7,206 individuals who are undergoing mandatory quarantine after returning from overseas with 536 individuals being treated at the hospital. – The Vibes, December 26, 2020
