THE government has agreed to the installation of high-tech Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) systems at the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detention centres and National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) lock-ups nationwide.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the initiative was agreed upon at the National Governance Cabinet Special Committee Meeting (JKKTN) Series 7, yesterday.
According to him, this move shows the government's commitment in strengthening the efficiency of enforcement agencies and ensuring that the safety of detainees is always maintained.
"This implementation is a strategic initiative by the government in line with the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) in meeting the needs of enforcement agencies as they face security challenges and strengthen monitoring in detention areas.
"The government views seriously the repeated incidents of encroachment by foreign fishing boats in national waters which not only violate the country's maritime sovereignty, but also cause leakage of the country's marine products to the detriment of the economy and the livelihood of local fishermen," he said in a post on Facebook, today.
Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said the government remains firm and will not compromise on issues involving the sovereignty of the country's waters.
He said the meeting also agreed that issues related to the country's waters should be addressed through strategic cooperation between Malaysia and the countries involved.
"The policy and legal reforms agreed upon today reflect the government's commitment to ensuring that the public service is always responsive to the needs of national security and upholds the principles of efficiency, transparency and effectiveness in public sector governance," he stressed. - September 26, 2025
