KUALA LUMPUR – There will be no delay in the screening of foreign workers for Covid-19 in the six high-risk states, Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan told The Star today.
He said that enforcement will start January 1 in Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Sabah, Kuala Lumpur and Labuan.
This move will also involve about 800,000 foreign workers.
As for non-high-risk states, enforcement will start after February.
As of yesterday, 68,460 foreign workers have been screened, involving 2,385 employers, he was quoted as saying.
Currently, there are 745 clinics participating in the programme in the six states.
Initially, the government ordered mandatory screening for foreign workers in the six states, but the directive on November 25 was extended to all states.
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on December 24 said action would be taken against errant employers under Act 342 (the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act).
