A MAN died after the Toyota GR86 sports car he was driving collided with a bus on Jalan Krubong towards Sungai Badau, in Melaka morning.

In the incident at about 7.35am, the car driver, Chong Chee Tong, 26, was confirmed dead at the scene due to severe internal injuries to the body and head.

The Fire and Rescue Services Department said they received an emergency call at 7.40am and a team of six members along with a fire engine rushed to the location.

“Upon arrival at 7.47am, the team found the driver of the car had already died, while the 34-year-old bus driver was trapped in the driver's side and suffered injuries to his leg and left hand.

“Both victims were successfully removed before being handed over to the police and Ministry of Health personnel for further action,” it said.

Meanwhile, Melaka Tengah District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said, the incident is believed to have occurred when the Toyota GR86 involved, which was coming from the direction of the One Krubong traffic light towards Krubong Perdana, lost control before entering the opposite lane.

“The car then hit the front of the bus coming from the direction of Krubong Perdana heading towards Melaka Sentral.

“The strong impact caused the entire car to be badly mangled and the driver was confirmed dead at the scene. There were no passengers on the bus at the time of the incident,” he said.

He said the victim’s body was sent to the Forensic Department of the Melaka Hospital for a post-mortem and the dashboard camera footage from the bus was obtained to assist in the investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. - November 16, 2025
