A CANE used by PAS President, Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, was successfully bid for RM16,500 at the Melaka PAS Charity Dinner at a hotel in Ayer Keroh last night.

The cane, made of yellow wood and bearing the initials 'TGHH', was initially offered at RM2,500 before the bid gradually increased to RM4,000 until it finally reached RM16,500.

The auction was held to collect donations for the party's fund in preparation for the upcoming Melaka State Election (PRN).

As soon as the host finished bidding on the 10th count, PAS Lembah Pantai Committee Member Datuk Muhamad Muqharabbin Mokhtarrudin was announced as the winner.

The cane was then personally handed over by Abdul Hadi to Muhamad Muqharabbin, a former  Mount Everest climber.

He reached the summit of Mount Everest on May 16, 2004, while leading the Malaysian team, and Nepal's climbing records also list him as the Malaysian climber who reached the summit that day.

Muhamad Muqharabbin previously held the positions of Lembah Pantai Division UMNO Youth Chief and Malaysia UMNO Youth Exco before joining Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in 2023.

He later resigned as Lembah Pantai Division Bersatu Chief before joining PAS.

Muhamad Muqharabbin joined PAS as an ordinary member, and two months ago he was appointed as a PAS Committee Member for Lembah Pantai. - August 24, 2026
