PARLIAMENTARY proceedings today were thrown into a political stir when Mohd Sany Hamzan (Hulu Langat), openly congratulated Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin (PN-Putrajaya) on his reported impending appointment as Leader of the Opposition.
Mohd Sany then went a step further to offer condolences to outgoing opposition chief Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin.
The remarks came during a debate on the 2026 Supply Bill for the Ministry of Health at the committee stage in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday.
“I would like to extend my congratulations to the Member for Putrajaya, who is reportedly set to be appointed as the Leader of the Opposition in the Malaysian Parliament.
“My condolences to the Member for Larut, who has been removed from the position. Best wishes in your duties, Honourable Member for Putrajaya,” Mohd Sany said as he concluded his speech.
The comments immediately drew a reprimand from Deputy Speaker Alice Lau Kiong Yeng, who reminded the MP that the House is not the place for party politics.
The development comes amid mounting speculation about leadership shifts within BERSATU following the circulation of a purported internal document dated 10 November 2025.
The confidential memo, lacking official letterhead, allegedly urged immediate action to restore party cohesion and suggested Radzi, the party’s Vice-President, replace Hamzah as Opposition Leader.
Despite the reports, Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah, PAS Vice-President, confirmed that his party has not received any formal communication from its Perikatan Nasional partners regarding the proposed leadership change.
Tonight, a meeting of BERSATU leaders is reportedly scheduled at the Bukit Damansara residence of party President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, while supporters of Hamzah are expected to gather outside the property in a show of solidarity.
