THE Shah Alam High Court has fixed 4 December to hear an application by Ismanira Abdul Manaf to stay the five-year prison sentence imposed on her for neglecting her son, six-year-old Zayn Rayyan, resulting in physical injury two years ago.

Senior Assistant Registrar Nadiah Misman set the date after Ismanira’s counsel, Haresh Mahadevan, filed the stay application on Wednesday.

On 31 October, the 30-year-old was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment by the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court after being found guilty of neglecting her autistic child in a manner that caused him physical harm. Judge Dr Syahliza Warnoh delivered the ruling after concluding that the defence had failed to raise reasonable doubt against the prosecution’s case.

She ordered Ismanira to begin serving the custodial sentence on the same day and further directed her to sign a two-year good-behaviour bond, backed by a surety and a RM3,000 security deposit.

Ismanira was also instructed to undertake 120 hours of community service, to be completed within six months of finishing her prison term. - November 19, 2025
