PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) has called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to urgently launch a comprehensive and independent investigation into allegations of bribery exceeding RM600,000 linked to Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, Senior Political Secretary to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
PN Chief Whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan stressed that a credible inquiry is essential given the involvement of a senior aide to the Prime Minister.
He warned that failing to act could undermine the government’s anti-corruption, anti-abuse-of-power, and anti-money-politics initiatives.
"If not, it will have serious repercussions and potentially derail all government initiatives and promises to combat corruption, abuse of power, and money politics," Takiyuddin said in a statement on Wednesday.
He said PN MPs were taking seriously the claims of a businessman, Albert Tei, who alleged that he had transferred more than RM600,000 to Shamsul. The same individual has previously been linked to a high-profile mineral mining scandal in Sabah.
"PN MPs also urge all parties involved, directly or indirectly, to cooperate fully with MACC. Any misconduct by any party must be acted upon according to the law without exceptions or selective enforcement," Takiyuddin emphasised.
Albert Tei reportedly provided RM629,000 to Shamsul, claiming he was assured that the funds would be recoverable through political channels in Sabah.
Tei has compiled a dossier exceeding 300 pages, including WhatsApp screenshots and receipts, to substantiate his allegations.
He claimed that some payments were for renovations, fixtures, and furnishings for two properties—one in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, and the other a government official residence in Putrajaya.
The allegations follow reports of a letter circulating on social media, allegedly signed by one of the Prime Minister’s political secretaries.
Dated 6 May 2024, the letter was addressed to an aide of Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, urging consideration of six contractors for a hospital project in Muar.
Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli named Shamsul Iskandar as the author of the letter, while Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim confirmed in Parliament on 18 November that he had reprimanded his political secretary, noting that such actions contravened established rules and government principles. - November 26, 2025
