THE DEWAN Rakyat sitting turned fraught this morning after an opposition MP alleged corruption within Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), prompting protests, interventions from the chair and the eventual withdrawal of the remarks.
Datuk Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh (PN–Besut) triggered the dispute when he alluded to “corruption” in PKR while referring to the recent resignation of the Prime Minister’s senior political secretary, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, who has been linked to allegations now being examined by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
The tension escalated when Datuk Rosol Wahid (PN–Hulu Terengganu) stood to ask whether Che Mohamad Zulkifly agreed that “corruption existed in PKR”, to which the Besut MP replied in the affirmative.
Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari (PH–Sungai Petani) objected immediately, invoking Standing Order 36(6), stating the comments amounted to “a malicious insinuation”.
He said: “Hulu Terengganu said PKR is a corrupt party, and Besut supported that. We cannot label the entire party as corrupt. Even if corruption has occurred, let the courts decide.
Tambun (Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) has already acted firmly by accepting his political secretary’s resignation and calling on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate without interference.”
Deputy Speaker Datuk Dr Ramli Mohd Nor ordered both Che Mohamad Zulkifly and Rosol to retract their remarks.
The pair initially defended themselves, insisting their comments were aimed at the party rather than any individual. Rosol said: “PKR is not a person but a party. I was asking Besut, not making an accusation.”
Ramli upheld his ruling, noting that PKR MPs present in the chamber could be unfairly implicated by such statements. Rosol subsequently withdrew his remark, saying: “Okay, if that’s the case, I withdraw.”
Che Mohamad Zulkifly continued to assert that corruption existed among “some” PKR members, prompting Dr Mohammed Taufiq to question whether the claim had been proven.
Ramli advised the Besut MP to file a motion if he wished to contest the ruling. Che Mohamad Zulkifly eventually relented, saying: “It’s all right, I withdraw.” - November 26, 2025
