MINISTER of Housing and Local Government Nga Kor Ming, during a recent campaign dinner for DAP candidates in Sabah, used the platform to reiterate the government’s firm commitment to an anti-corruption agenda, emphasising that integrity remains paramount in public service.
Speaking in Chinese, Nga sought to defend the administration’s image while addressing concerns raised over the resignation of Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin as the Prime Minister’s senior political secretary.
He clarified that Shamsul’s departure was not linked to corruption, but to a procedural matter involving a letter of support sent last year.
“We will not compromise on corruption. Zero tolerance, zero protection. Today, the Prime Minister’s senior political secretary, Shamsul, announced his resignation.
“He did not corrupt anyone. He merely sent a letter of support recommending a contractor for a hospital project. He did not take any money, but he should not have sent that letter,” he said.
Nga stressed that the resignation sends a strong signal that the government remains resolute on matters of integrity.
“The action disrupted the entire public tendering process. In situations like this, stepping down was necessary. It reflects the Prime Minister’s stance: from top to bottom, even for his own aides, the administration remains staunchly anti-corruption,” he said.
Kor Ming further asserted that any government official found involved in misconduct will be compelled to resign, reinforcing the administration’s message that accountability applies to all, regardless of rank. - November 26, 2025
