FORMER Senior Political Secretary to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, along with two others, will be called to provide statements as part of an investigation into alleged bribery involving businessman Albert Tei, with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission moving swiftly to conclude the probe.
THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will summon three individuals, including former Senior Political Secretary to the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, to give statements in connection with allegations of bribery made by businessman Albert Tei.
SPRM Chief Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that Shamsul is expected to provide his testimony tomorrow, following the voluntary appearance today of a woman identified as Sofia Rini Buyong.
“The investigation papers were opened following a report by a news portal alleging that Albert Tei gave a bribe to Shamsul during his tenure as Senior Political Secretary,” Azam said.
“So far, we have called three witnesses. First, Sofia appeared at the MACC office today at 2 pm.”
He added that Shamsul, currently in Kota Kinabalu, will be attending the commission tomorrow upon returning to Kuala Lumpur.
Albert Tei is scheduled to be summoned on December 1, following a request for postponement due to unavoidable technical issues.
Azam emphasised that all individuals summoned must fully cooperate to ensure the investigation is concluded promptly. “I have instructed officers to complete the investigation within two weeks. This case is considered serious, and we aim to resolve it as quickly as possible,” he said.
The move follows Shamsul Iskandar’s recent confirmation that he had submitted his resignation to the Prime Minister, which Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim accepted, affirming that the SPRM will conduct its investigation independently without external interference. - November 27, 2025
