A YOUNG police officer who went missing after his car became trapped in floodwaters near Klinik Desa Giching, Sepang, on Friday night has been found dead, authorities confirmed this morning.
The victim, Constable Muhammad Rahimi Amiruddin, 23, of Nilai Police District Headquarters, was discovered by a joint search team of police and the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) at approximately 7.30 am, around 50 metres from the location where he was last seen.
JBPM Deputy Director of Operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the discovery came as part of an intensive search and rescue (SAR) operation.
“Police and JBPM personnel at the scene found the victim roughly 50 metres from his vehicle,” he stated.
The officer, who had been serving at Nilai Police Station for a year, was reportedly driving home from visiting family in his hometown of Johor when the Perodua Bezza he was in veered into a ditch in the flooded area.
Eyewitnesses said they saw him clinging to a road sign before being swept away by the strong current.
“Someone saw him holding onto a signboard. The witness noted he seemed exhausted before the current finally pulled him under,” said Norhizam, a local official involved in the search.
Search efforts involved around 60 personnel from the police, JBPM, and the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), who extended the search area to approximately 2.5 kilometres from the incident site, reaching as far as the Labu Lanjut solar farm.
The tragic discovery serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by flash floods in low-lying areas, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall. - November 30, 2025
