OUTGOING Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz attended his final Dewan Negara session today, marking the end of his tenure as a senator.
In an Instagram post reflecting on his parliamentary service, Tengku Zafrul expressed gratitude for the opportunity and responsibility of serving in Parliament, describing it as a profoundly meaningful journey.
“If yesterday I bade farewell to the Dewan Rakyat, today is my final session in the Dewan Negara,” he wrote.
He added that, although he will no longer hold a senatorial position, his commitment to advancing the economic agenda of the nation and its people will remain steadfast.
“The experience of serving in Parliament is a responsibility I deeply value. God willing, my support and commitment to ensuring the economic agenda of the people and the nation proceeds smoothly will always continue,” he said.
Tengku Zafrul concluded his tenure as Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry today after serving two terms as a senator.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed that he will continue to play a role in government, with a new portfolio to be announced in due course.
Beyond his ministerial duties, Tengku Zafrul reaffirmed his longstanding engagement with national badminton as president of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM). He was unanimously elected as the 13th BAM president for the 2025–2029 term on May 10.
“I'm always involved in badminton. I will be going to the SEA Games. I'm sending off our badminton players on Thursday,” he said.
Travelling this weekend to support the national squad, he expressed optimism for Malaysia’s prospects at the regional meet.
“I'm confident a few of our players will be in the final for this SEA Games, which will be on Dec 14. I hope to be there,” he added.
Tengku Zafrul also addressed concerns surrounding the Netherlands-based semiconductor firm Nexperia, following reports that China had instructed the company to halt its global expansion plans, including in Malaysia.
He reassured that operations at Nexperia’s Malaysian facility continue as usual and confirmed that the government is monitoring the situation closely. “
“Operations are still ongoing. I spoke to Malaysian Investment Development Authority yesterday. We will wait for the company to revert to us. As of today, it's still business as usual,” he said. - December 2, 2025
