FORMER political aide Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin refrained from commenting on whether he intends to step down from his party positions after being hit with a fifth corruption charge linked to businessman Albert Tei.
The 51-year-old, who currently holds the posts of Melaka PKR chief and Hang Tuah Jaya division chief, told reporters outside the court, “Let's focus on these cases first,” before giving a thumbs-up and departing the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court complex.
The latest charge accuses Shamsul Iskandar of soliciting a bribe of RM64,924 from Tei to cover rental costs for a property on Jalan Medang Serai in Bukit Bandaraya, Kuala Lumpur. This follows four previous corruption charges involving similar allegations of receiving funds from Tei.
Shamsul Iskandar expressed gratitude to his party colleagues who raised funds to meet the RM150,000 bail imposed for the earlier charges.
“The bail sum was very high. Continue to pray for me,” he said.
Both Shamsul Iskandar and Tei now face a total of five corruption charges. Yesterday, Shamsul Iskandar pleaded not guilty to receiving RM176,829.03 from Tei, who in turn claimed trial to giving the money.
Both remain out on bail, with Shamsul Iskandar at RM150,000 and Tei at RM70,000.
The case continues to draw attention to political integrity and the handling of corruption allegations within Malaysian political circles, raising questions about accountability among senior party leaders. - December 5, 2025
