POLICE have detained a 30-year-old private-sector worker in connection with a violent altercation at the Sungai Long Toll Plaza along the East Klang Valley Expressway towards Balakong, an incident that caused traffic disruption and drew widespread public attention.

Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said the suspect was detained at about 10.30pm on Saturday, a day after the confrontation was reported.

“Further checks found that the suspect has a previous criminal record. The man has been remanded for three days until tomorrow (Monday) for further investigation,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

Naazron said the case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 48(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“Members of the public who have information about the incident can contact the nearest police station or the investigating officer, Insp. Ghazali Zulkifli, at 016-9740758 to assist with the investigation,” he added.

On Friday, police confirmed that an investigation had been opened into a fight involving two individuals at the toll plaza, with one of them allegedly seen holding an object believed to be a wooden stick.

The incident, which reportedly occurred at around 9am, caused temporary traffic congestion and inconvenience to other highway users, prompting calls for firm action against aggressive behaviour on public roads. - January 4, 2025
