THE former chairman of the Pertubuhan Kebajikan Serantau Muslim (PKSM), Mohd Hakim Mohd Nor, has been charged again, this time facing six counts of allegedly misappropriating funds belonging to the non-governmental organisation, involving more than RM570,000.
Mohd Hakim, 39, pleaded not guilty after all six charges were read before Sessions Court judge Elesabet Paya Wan at the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court on Thursday and claimed trial.
Under the first to sixth charges, he is accused of dishonestly misusing PKSM funds comprising humanitarian donations collected for relief missions carried out in collaboration with NGOs operating in Myanmar, Yemen, Syria and Palestine.
The total amount allegedly involved is RM576,995.40.
The offences are said to have been committed at Maybank Islamic Berhad’s Merlimau branch in Jasin on various dates between June 2019 and My 2021.
Mohd Hakim was charged under Section 403 of the Penal Code, which carries a punishment of between six months and five years’ imprisonment, whipping and a fine upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutors from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, Muaz Ahmad Khairuddin and Asmaa’ Zamri, sought bail of RM200,000, citing the seriousness of the offences allegedly committed.
Counsel for the accused, Azizzul Shariman Mat Yusoff, argued that the proposed bail was excessive and urged the court to reduce it to between RM20,000 and RM30,000.
He submitted that Mohd Hakim had already been charged the previous day at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court for a similar offence under the same provision of law and had been granted bail of RM10,000.
Azizzul told the court that his client currently earns a living through online business and would be bailed by his wife, who earns RM1,500 a month, while supporting five school-going children.
He also informed the court that Mohd Hakim is expected to face another charge at the Ipoh Sessions Court in Perak the following day in connection with the same matter.
Judge Elesabet allowed the accused to be released on bail of RM35,000 pending trial and fixed 13 March for mention of the case for document submission.
On Wednesday, Mohd Hakim was charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court over allegations of misusing RM207,000 in humanitarian donation funds collected seven years ago.
The assets allegedly misappropriated in both cases involve donations raised for humanitarian missions conducted in cooperation with NGOs working in Myanmar, Yemen, Syria and Palestine. - January 13, 2026
