A 34-YEAR-OLD engineer in Dungun suffered losses totaling RM102,100 after being deceived by a fraudulent job offer she responded to on 10 January.

The woman was added to a WhatsApp group named “feedback & rating (2026)” after clicking a link from a Facebook advertisement, police said.

Dungun District Police Chief Superintendent Maizura Abdul Kadir explained that the victim was instructed to complete various tasks by the group’s “admin,” who promised increasing rewards and prizes for her participation.

“The victim carried out several tasks and initially received a return of RM310 for the work she completed on 10 and 11 January,” she said in a statement today.

The scam escalated when the fraudsters asked her to complete further tasks via the Telegram application, which required her to make financial contributions to progress in the scheme. Over the course of the scam, the victim transferred money in 11 separate transactions to seven different bank accounts, amounting to RM102,100.

“The engineer realised she had been deceived by the syndicate and lodged a report at the Dungun District Police Headquarters yesterday,” Superintendent Maizura added.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. Authorities have warned the public to exercise caution when responding to unsolicited online job offers and to verify the legitimacy of any recruitment requests received via social media or messaging apps. - January 18, 2026
