Malaysia's trade volume for 2025 hits RM3 trillion, highest in history - PM

Malaysia's trade volume for 2025 reached the highest value of RM3 trillion in the country's history.

According to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, for the first nine months, investments were approved at RM285.2 billion, an increase of 13.2 per cent compared to the same period in 2024.

"We have also succeeded in breaking into new regions and areas to increase markets and trade. For the first 9 months of 2025, approved investments were RM285.2 billion, an increase of 13.2 per cent compared to the same period in 2024.

"Approved investments are the highest in history after RM329.5 billion (2023) and RM384.4 billion (2024). But a very proud statement, Alhamdulillah, is what will be announced by MATRADE at 12 noon today, which is a positive and the highest trade trend in history.

“History has been made, and the figures will be announced in detail this afternoon, with the total trade for 2025 reaching RM3 trillion for the first time. That is why I have summarised the need for policy clarification, good discipline and governance and exploring new markets,” he explained.

He said this when answering an oral question from Simpang Renggam (BN) Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Hasni Mohamad, in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Elaborating further, Anwar said that despite the increasingly challenging global geopolitics, especially policy changes by the United States.

However, Malaysia is realistic in exploring new areas and markets.

“It is true that one statement should be paid attention to because of the geopolitical position and changes, several major uncertain policies, including the US, both in terms of tariffs or several decisions involving other European countries, the Greenland issue, the Venezuela issue, which have caused international trade affairs and also the penetration of new markets to be affected to some extent.

“The Malaysian government is realistic in looking at this statement; therefore, we have tried to explore new areas and markets, including new technologies. Therefore, Alhamdulillah, so far apart from the old permanent trading partners, the US, Europe, and China,” he explained further.
