MOTORISTS across Peninsular Malaysia will face slightly higher fuel costs this week following a government announcement increasing retail prices for RON97, RON95, and diesel, as global oil prices continue their upward trajectory.
A statement from the Ministry of Finance (MOF) today revealed that effective 22 January until 28 January 2026, RON97 petrol will now cost RM3.10 per litre, non-subsidised RON95 RM2.54 per litre, and diesel RM2.88 per litre.
MOF explained that the adjustments were made using the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM) to reflect movements in international oil markets, while ensuring that price stability remains a key priority.
“We will continue to review and adjust petrol and diesel retail prices in line with movements in global oil markets. Price stability remains the foremost priority,” the Ministry said.
Under the new rates, RON97 petrol rises by two sen per litre, non-subsidised RON95 petrol by two sen per litre, while subsidised RON95 under the BUDI95 programme remains unchanged at RM1.99 per litre.
Diesel prices in Peninsular Malaysia increase by four sen per litre, whereas diesel in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan is maintained at RM2.15 per litre.
The Ministry reassured the public that it would continue monitoring international oil price trends closely and take appropriate measures to ensure the welfare of consumers is protected, amid ongoing global price volatility. - January 21, 2026
