POLICE are investigating allegations that a young autistic boy was confined at a private daycare in Shah Alam, following three separate reports, including one from the child’s parents.

The child, who is currently between 10 and 11 years old, had reportedly been attending the daycare since the age of five, Shah Alam Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Ramsay Embol told reporters on Thursday.

“The initial investigation indicates that the child has been sent to the daycare since around five years old. To assist our inquiry, police have also recorded a statement from a social media influencer who may have relevant information regarding this case,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001. Police have received several CCTV recordings from the daycare to aid in their inquiries.

The viral video that prompted the investigation reportedly shows some daycare staff allegedly confining the autistic child in a storage room, raising serious concerns about the child’s welfare.

Authorities have urged anyone with additional information or evidence related to the incident or the viral footage to come forward to assist the investigation.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara), Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, confirmed that the agency would conduct a detailed investigation after being notified of the alleged abuse by a prominent social media influencer.

Police continue to collect statements and digital evidence as they probe the claims, emphasising the seriousness of the allegations and their commitment to ensuring the child’s safety. - January 22, 2026
