A PRIVATE university student pleaded not guilty in the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court today to a charge of driving a car under the influence of alcohol and crashing into a security barrier at Gate 2, Istana Negara.
According to the charge, M Kajen, 22, was charged with driving a Toyota Vios with an alcohol content of 166 milligrams (mg) per 100 millilitres of blood, which is above the permitted limit.
The offence was committed at Gate 2, Istana Negara, on Jalan Changkat Semantan, at about 3.50 am on Friday and he was charged under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which provides for a maximum fine of RM10,000 or a maximum jail term of five years and disqualification from driving for up to five years, if convicted.
Prosecuting Officer, Inspector Shazwan Hasifi Shahrun offered bail of RM10,000, but the accused appealed for the minimum bail amount as he was still pursuing his degree studies and was not from a high-income family.
Magistrate Khairunnisak Hassni allowed the accused to be bailed at RM4,000 with one surety and set February 26 as the case mention date for the submission of documents, reported Bernama.
Earlier, Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, in a statement, informed that the incident occurred at 3.30 am while the 21-year-old man was driving a Toyota Vios from the direction of Bukit Damansara.
No injuries were reported in the accident, which caused damage to the front of the car and a bollard pole, as well as the barrier gate. – January 23, 2026
