BARISAN Nasional’s candidate Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar for the Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election, completed his voting at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Bilit earlier today.
Better known as Naim, the son of the late Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, arrived at the polling station at 8.50 a.m., accompanied by a small group of supporters.
A native of Kampung Bilit, he took the time to shake hands with locals who had gathered at the centre and later visited his father’s former residence, located adjacent to SK Bilit.
Reflecting on his childhood, Naim shared fond memories of growing up in the house.
“I used to spend a lot of time here as a child, following my father and watching the boat races during the river festival held here,” he said.
The Kinabatangan by-election, necessitated by the passing of Bung Moktar on December 5, 2025, sees Naim contesting in a three-way race against Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman of Warisan and independent candidate Goldam Hamid.
The visit to SK Bilit allowed Naim not only to fulfil his civic duty but also to connect with constituents and revisit his family roots, a gesture that underscores the personal and political significance of the by-election.
As the campaign intensifies, voters across the constituency continue to navigate challenging journeys, including river crossings and long commutes, to participate in this crucial electoral exercise that will determine the next representative for Kinabatangan. - January 24, 2026
