PARTI Keadilan Rakyat has appointed former Umno supreme council member Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz as an ex-officio member of its political bureau, following a decision made at the party’s monthly Central Leadership Council meeting held on Sunday.
PKR information chief Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the meeting also approved several other ex-officio appointments to the party’s political bureau, including Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, Mohammed Taufiq Johari and Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid.
In addition, three individuals were appointed as ex-officio members of the PKR Central Leadership Council, namely Datuk Jamawi Ja’afar, Datuk Ruji Ubi and Datuk Yamani Hafez Musa.
Fahmi also announced that the PKR National Congress will be held in Melaka from June 25 to 28, 2026, with further details to be released by the party headquarters in due course.
“Detailed information will be released by PKR headquarters in the near future,” he said in a statement.
Beyond internal party matters, Fahmi said the council had also reviewed the implementation of new initiatives under the Madani government, including the National Education Plan, which he described as a comprehensive effort to improve education quality and equip younger generations for an increasingly challenging digital world.
“In addition, the council has examined the implementation of the latest initiatives by the Madani Government, including the National Education Plan, which is a comprehensive effort to ensure better education standards and to prepare young people to face an increasingly challenging digital world,” he said.
He added that public assistance programmes such as the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Basic Rahmah Contribution), Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (Rahmah Cash Contribution), Jualan Rahmah (Rahmah Sale) and Bantuan Awal Persekolahan (Back-to-School Aid) could be further enhanced to address the cost of living more effectively.
“Public assistance programmes such as Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA), Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR), Jualan Rahmah and Bantuan Awal Persekolahan (BAP) are also seen as capable of being improved to ensure that issues related to the cost of living are effectively addressed,” he said.
Tengku Zafrul announced his resignation from Umno on May 30, expressing his intention to join PKR. On August 8, he confirmed that his application had been approved, officially joining the party as a member of the Ampang division, which is led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
On the issue of corruption, Fahmi said PKR’s leadership reaffirmed its support for efforts to combat graft and dismantle cartel networks.
