A TWO-YEAR-OLD boy was found dead inside a car parked behind a bank near Jalan Tunku Hassan here on Tuesday afternoon, in a case believed to involve prolonged exposure after the child was left unattended for several hours.
Seremban district police chief Assistant Commissioner Azahar Abdul Rahim said initial investigations indicated that the child had been left in the vehicle as early as 8am and was only discovered at about 5pm.
“The police received a MERS 999 call at 6.15pm from a member of the public informing us that a child had died inside a car,” he said.
“Based on preliminary investigations, police found the victim unconscious inside a white Proton Saga and it is believed that the child was left inside the vehicle by his mother as early as 8.00am,” he added.
Azahar said the child’s mother is believed to have forgotten to drop him off at a babysitter before heading to work. The incident only came to light after she finished work at around 5pm.
“It is understood that the victim’s mother forgot to send the child to the caregiver. The incident was only realised by the mother at about 5pm after she finished work,” he said in a statement today.
The child was pronounced dead by a medical team from Hospital Tuanku Jaafar and was later sent to Hospital Rembau for a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.
“The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 and the victim’s mother has been detained to assist with investigations,” Azahar said.
He also urged the public not to speculate on the case in a manner that could disrupt the investigation, adding that anyone with information may contact the Seremban District Police Headquarters at 06-6033222.
Meanwhile, a clothing shop worker near the location said she rushed outside after hearing a woman screaming behind the premises.
“My colleague and I immediately went to see what was happening and were told that there was a child unconscious inside a car,” she said.
“There were also people saying that the child’s mother works at a bank and is believed to have forgotten that her child was left inside the vehicle,” she added. - January 28, 2026
