THE progress of the Littoral Combat Ship LCS 1 KD Maharajalela and proposals to regulate age-verification processes on social media platforms featured prominently during today’s sitting of the Dewan Rakyat.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin is expected to brief the House on the latest developments within the Malaysian Armed Forces during a special ministerial session.
According to the Order Paper published on Parliament’s official website, Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz (PN–Tanah Merah) raised a question during the oral question session seeking clarification from the Defence Minister on the performance status of LCS 1 during sea trials and whether the vessel could be commissioned as early as August this year.
Separately, Syerleena Abdul Rashid (PH–Bukit Bendera) directed a question to the Communications Minister regarding the government’s proposal to regulate age-verification mechanisms for social media platforms, particularly in light of concerns that such measures would require Malaysian citizens to provide personal data to foreign-based platforms operating outside the country.
Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kasim (PN–Arau) questioned the Youth and Sports Minister on why Malaysia lacks internationally rated stadiums and a dedicated sports university, and sought details of the government’s plans to develop modern facilities to ensure national athletes remain competitive on the global stage.
Following the oral question session, the Dewan Rakyat is set to continue debating the motion of thanks for the Royal Address, tabled by Members of Parliament.
The current Dewan Rakyat sitting is scheduled to run for 20 days, concluding on 3 March. - January 28, 2026
