WORLD Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) has achieved a landmark recognition on the international stage, receiving the ASEAN Tourism Standards Award 2026–2028 as the 3rd ASEAN MICE Venue in the Exhibition Venue Category.

The award was presented during a ceremony held on Friday in Cebu, Philippines, officiated by the Honourable Christina Garcia Frasco, Secretary of Tourism of the Republic of the Philippines, as part of the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2026, coinciding with the Philippines’ chairmanship of ASEAN.

Malaysia’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) Secretary-General Datuk Shaharuddin Abu Sohot formally presented the accolade to WTCKL, recognising the centre’s adherence to rigorous regional standards encompassing physical infrastructure, technology, service quality, management, and team expertise.

WTCKL Group Managing Director Dato’ Sri Dr Irmohizam Ibrahim, at the event, said: “This recognition underscores our ability to meet ASEAN benchmarks and our continued focus on delivering high-quality, safe, and competitive exhibition facilities.”

He added that the award reflects the organisation’s ongoing commitment to excellence and innovation, with plans to further enhance infrastructure and services in line with global trends and client expectations.

“Our main focus now is to further strengthen our infrastructure in line with global trends, while driving service innovation that exceeds customer expectations.

“Through closer strategic collaborations with industry partners, WTCKL will continue to be a key driver of a sustainable event economy in the region,” Irmohizam said.

The ceremony also provided an opportunity for Irmohizam to meet ASEAN Tourism Forum Chair and Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, discussing the developments at WTCKL and reaffirming Malaysia’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation with the Philippines in advancing the Business Events and MICE industries across the region.

Meanwhile, Group Chief Executive Officer Fauzy Wahab described the recognition as a catalyst for WTCKL to maintain its role as a leading international convention and exhibition centre.

“This award reinforces our commitment to driving growth and excellence in the Business Events and MICE industry.

“We will continue to prioritise innovation, relevance, and high standards in every event we organise, strengthening WTCKL’s position as a premier hub for global business gatherings,” he said.

The ASEAN Tourism Standards Awards celebrate tourism organisations and facilities across member states that uphold regional benchmarks, promoting quality, consistency, and competitiveness in tourism and MICE industries throughout Southeast Asia.
