THE issue of the alleged shareholding involving Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki should be debated in Parliament, said DAP Advisor Lim Guan Eng.
He said the issue should be debated before the current session ends on March 3, 2026, as proposed by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Presidential Council in 2022.
"When I assumed the position of DAP Secretary-General, the PH Presidential Council at that time had called for Azam and two other individuals to be suspended from duty in relation to the shareholding scandal to pave the way for an independent investigation.
"At that time, Azam was involved in a similar shareholding controversy regarding his ownership of 1,930,000 shares in Gets Global Berhad (formerly KBES Berhad) on April 30, 2015, worth approximately RM772,000 at the time," he said in a statement on Sunday.
Guan Eng said that his shareholding in Gets Global Berhad had decreased to 1,029,500 shares as of March 31, 2016, which was worth around RM340,000 at that time.
The Member of Parliament for Bagan said that Azam also held 2,156,000 warrants in Excel Force MSC Berhad in March 2016.
Additionally, Azam is now once again involved in a similar shareholding controversy when the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) records revealed that at one point last year, he owned 17.7 million shares in Velocity Capital Partner Berhad as well as approximately 4.52 million shares in Awanbiru Technology Berhad.
According to media reports, Guan Eng said that Velocity Capital Partner shares were believed to have been purchased for around RM1.5 million, while Awanbiru Technology shares were estimated to be worth between RM1.24 million and RM1.38 million at one point.
"As proposed by the PH Presidential Council in 2022, I also agree that this issue should be debated as a specific motion in Parliament before the current session ends on March 3, 2026," he added. – February 15, 2026
