THE authorities have heightened security nationwide after a brazen early-morning attack on the Commander of the Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) at Bukit Kayu Hitam, prompting swift government action and a comprehensive police investigation.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail confirmed that Senior Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nasaruddin M Nasir, the officer targeted in the attack, emerged unharmed.
“The incident is under a thorough investigation by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). Security at all national entry points remains under control. Additional security measures have been implemented immediately to ensure the safety of our personnel and the public,” he said.
He emphasised that the government will not tolerate any threat to national security.
“Strict action will be taken against those involved. I urge the public not to speculate and to allow authorities to conduct their investigation professionally,” Saifuddin added.
The attack occurred at approximately 5:40 a.m. when Mohd Nasaruddin was driving a Proton X70 towards Masjid Al Muhajirin.
Two shots were fired by an unknown assailant, with one bullet narrowly missing his face.
The first shot struck the rear right door of the vehicle, while the second passed across the open driver’s window, piercing the left door.
Quick reflexes and timely braking by Mohd Nasaruddin prevented injury.
Kedah Police Chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah said preliminary findings suggest the suspects were riding a motorcycle, dressed in dark clothing and wearing full-face helmets.
“We believe the shooter used a semi-automatic weapon as we found shattered bullet fragments. The first shot hit the rear right door of the Proton X70, and the second passed across the driver’s face. Perhaps startled by the first shot, he managed to brake the vehicle, causing the bullet to miss,” he said.
In response, police launched Op Tutup, including roadblocks along the Kota Putra and Durian Burung border checkpoints in Padang Terap, to track down the assailants.
Forensic teams from the Kedah Police Contingent Headquarters, assisted by the K-9 unit, were deployed to examine the scene and recover bullet casings.
Adzli stressed that the incident represents a serious challenge to the AKPS and all enforcement agencies, urging officers to remain vigilant.
“Safety must be the priority in carrying out duties,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 3 of the Firearms Act 1971, which imposes severe penalties for discharging a firearm with intent to cause death or injury, even though no physical injuries occurred in this instance.
Authorities continue to appeal for public calm and cooperation as the investigation progresses. - February 25, 2026
