THE Home Ministry has clarified that police are investigating allegations of a plot aimed at toppling the government and destabilising the country, following a formal complaint.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail described the inquiry as being at an early stage and declined to provide further details.
“Last Friday, during a Cabinet meeting, it was decided that for any complaint received, the police are required to prioritise and conduct an investigation.
“In this case, it began when a party lodged a complaint and we must start an inquiry; however, it is still too early,” he told reporters during a pre-dawn meal event with clients at the PUSPEN Bachok programme on Sunday.
He emphasised that the complaint provides the foundation for police to determine the direction and motive of the investigation.
“All these matters must be considered comprehensively,” he added.
Earlier, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail confirmed that the Royal Malaysia Police are conducting an investigation into claims of an attempt to overthrow the government and sabotage national stability, reportedly involving a prominent local individual and international media organisations.
Mohd Khalid said the police received the report on the matter yesterday and that the case is being handled by the Special Investigation Unit of the Prosecution and Legal Division (D5), Criminal Investigation Department, Bukit Aman.
The investigation is being conducted under Section 124B of the Penal Code, which covers acts aimed at waging war against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong or the government.
He stressed that the investigation is ongoing and advised the public against making any speculation while authorities complete their inquiries, in order to uphold the principles of criminal justice in Malaysia.
The Home Ministry and the police have signalled a firm stance on monitoring and addressing threats to government stability, with the early-stage probe underlining the seriousness with which complaints of this nature are treated. - March 1, 2026
