GEORGE TOWN – Covid-19 cases continue to be detected throughout Penang despite the high compliance rate by residents here, said state executive councillor Jagdeep Singh Deo.
Jagdeep, who oversees state housing, local government and town planning, said there is a 99.73% compliance on the island and mainland at 99.37%.
The Penang Island and Seberang Prai city councils have inspected 554,329 and 748,527 commercial and high-rise premises in the past week.
“A total of 1.3 million premises were inspected, and the compliance rate is high,” he said after inspecting the Taman Free School wet market here today.
He said that the fight against Covid-19 must continue, adding that in the absence of the vaccines, the only way to fight Covid-19 is through the SOPs – wearing face masks, physical distancing, and high hygiene practices.
He added that there are nine clusters in the state while another nine have ended after no fresh infections were detected.
In Penang, the clusters that have been eradicated are Assumption, Rajawali, Bayan, Permatang, Summer, Rengas, Tembaga, Sri Pasir and Intan.
There are four new clusters – Rawa Akasia, May Indah, Lis Putih and Sentosa Residensi.
As of today, Penang has 226 new cases with a total of 3,714. The state also recorded 3,116 recoveries, 589 active cases and nine deaths. – The Vibes, January 1, 2021
