THE defence representing Datin Seri Zizie Izette Abdul Samad concluded their testimony today in a high-profile corruption case involving allegations of collusion with her late husband over FELCRA approval for a RM150 million investment in Public Mutual unit trusts.
Zizie Izette’s lawyer, Datuk K Kumaraendran, informed the Sessions Court that the defence had closed its case following the completion of her testimony as the second defence witness.
Her late husband, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, who faced identical charges, had given his defence testimony on 2 September last year.
However, the Sessions Court freed Bung Moktar on 16 January after the prosecution decided not to proceed with the case, following his passing on 5 December 2025.
Presiding Judge Rosli Ahmad has scheduled 18 May for oral submissions from both the prosecution and defence. Written submissions are due from the prosecution by 24 April, with the defence’s written replies to be filed by 8 May.
The legal proceedings follow a 2024 Court of Appeal decision ordering both Bung Moktar and Zizie Izette to enter their defence against three counts of corruption, overturning the High Court’s earlier acquittal of the couple on 7 September 2023.
The initial Sessions Court order in September 2022 had already required the couple to defend themselves after the prosecution established a prima facie case.
The prosecution is represented by Deputy Public Prosecutors Law Chin How and Mohamad Fadhly Mohd Zamri, while Zizie Izette’s defence team also includes lawyers M Athimulan and Ridha Abdah Subri. - March 5, 2026
