A FEMALE actress and her husband are under fresh police scrutiny for allegedly defrauding a retired civil servant over a bogus honourific title in Terengganu, weeks after their arrest in connection with a RM1.5 million land scam.
The Seremban District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Azahar Abdul Rahim, confirmed that the police received a report regarding the alleged scam on 18 December.
“Police have received a report concerning a fraudulent scheme involving the acquisition of a non-existent Terengganu state honour, which supposedly carries the title Datuk,” he said on Sunday.
According to Azahar, the victim, a male retired government officer, was approached by the husband, who offered to facilitate the acquisition of the so-called honour.
The victim allegedly made six separate payments between January and November 2025, totalling RM23,120.
“Further investigations are being conducted under Section 420 of the Penal Code. The couple, whose remand ended today, will be re-arrested to assist with ongoing inquiries,” he added.
Police have urged the public to exercise caution and verify any offers of state honours before making payments.
“Members of the public should make proper checks with the relevant authorities before proceeding with any transaction,” Azahar said.
Earlier media reports revealed that the couple, aged 35 and 41, had been initially detained in March for their alleged involvement in a separate fraudulent land sales scheme in Selangor, which caused losses amounting to RM1.5 million.
The pair were initially remanded for three days starting 5 March, with an additional day granted for further investigation.
