EATING sweets suspected of containing drugs, believed to belong to an influencer, was the cause a three-year-old girl tested positive for drugs last week.
Melaka Police Chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said initial investigations found that the sweets were bought by a 39-year-old suspect who lives with his mother, who is also the child's nanny.
"Initial investigations found that the suspect claimed to have bought the sweets from a neighbouring country before storing them in the fridge at his mother's house.
"However, unknowingly, the child who loves sweets took them and ate them before the victim lost consciousness and was taken to the hospital.
"However, the sweets in question were not found during the raid," he said in a statement here today.
Yesterday, the media reported that a male influencer from Melaka was remanded to assist investigations after the child tested positive for the banned substance tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which was first detected on April 14.
Dzulkhairi said it was after the complainant, a medical officer at the Melaka Hospital, received the victim in a semi-conscious state at around 5 pm.
"The victim's mother informed the hospital that her child was previously under the care of a nanny, the mother of the male influencer in the Sungai Putat area, here.
"However, the victim has recovered and has been allowed to return home," he said.
Following that, a team of officers and members from the D11, the Melaka Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) arrested the suspect, the male influencer, at about 9.30 pm on April 15.
The suspect was confirmed to have no record, and the results of a urine test on him were found to be negative for drugs.
The suspect was previously remanded for seven days from April 16 until yesterday, before the remand period was extended for another five days from today until April 27.
The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Children's Act 2001, which provides for a prison sentence of up to 10 years or a fine of up to RM20,000 or both if convicted. – April 23, 2026
