Chinese national identified as organiser of drug-fuelled party raided in KL hotel

THE police have identified a Chinese national arrested during a recent hotel raid in the capital as the organiser of a private party allegedly associated with drug abuse and other illicit activities.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said investigators established that the event had been promoted through Instagram and attracted dozens of participants before authorities moved in.

The raid, conducted on May 24, resulted in the arrest of 51 men during a series of operations at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur and the seizure of various narcotics with an estimated value of RM103,070.

Hussein said preliminary investigations indicated that the drugs recovered during the operation were intended for personal consumption and shared among attendees rather than for commercial distribution.

"However, intelligence gathering is ongoing to trace the source of the drug supply," he said when contacted on Tuesday.

The case has also been complicated by the death of one of the individuals believed to have attended the gathering.

Police said the man was found unconscious during the operation and was later pronounced dead upon arrival at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

Hussein said investigators are still awaiting the official medical report to determine the exact cause of death and whether it was linked to drug consumption or other factors.

The latest findings have provided greater insight into the scale and organisation of the event, which authorities believe was coordinated through social media channels.

Of the 51 individuals detained, 17 have been charged under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, a provision that carries severe penalties for serious drug-related offences.

Another suspect has been charged under Section 39A(1) of the same Act, while 33 others face charges under Section 12(2) relating to possession of prohibited substances.

Hussein added that the Chinese national identified as the organiser has been charged under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

Investigators are continuing efforts to determine how the drugs entered the gathering and whether the operation was connected to a broader narcotics distribution network.

The case has drawn significant public attention due to the large number of arrests, the alleged nature of the event and the death of one participant, with police indicating that further developments are expected once forensic and intelligence investigations are completed. - June 2, 2026
