Teen driver sent to Henry Gurney school for three years over fatal Seremban crash

A MAGISTRATES’ court in Seremban has ordered a teenage driver who caused a fatal crash killing three youths in Matahari Heights, Seremban, to be detained at Henry Gurney School for three years.

Magistrate Nurul Azuin Mohd Talhah handed down the sentence after the 18-year-old offender pleaded guilty to an offence under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The court said the decision was made after considering a social report submitted by a probation officer from the Social Welfare Department (JKM), as well as submissions from both the prosecution and defence.

The court also ordered that the teenager be placed under the supervision of an ethics officer for one year upon completion of his sentence.

In addition, his mother was bound over for good behaviour for three years with a RM4,000 surety under Section 93(1) of the Child Act 2001.

For a second charge of driving without a licence under Section 26(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, the offender was fined RM2,000, in default one month’s imprisonment.

The court further ordered the parents to pay compensation of RM2,000 to each of the victims’ families under Section 426A of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Deputy public prosecutor Noor Hafiza Ishak said the prosecution had sought for victim impact statements to be read before submitting aggravating arguments, recommending that the teenager be sent to prison.

However, the court opted instead for placement at Henry Gurney School, as recommended by JKM officers.

Defence counsel Johan Radzi said an application to delay the placement order was rejected, despite claims that his client had ongoing health issues following the accident.

The crash, which occurred in March last year, involved a Honda Jazz that allegedly ran a red light and collided with two motorcycles.

Three teenagers – Muhammad Aidil Ramdan Abdullah, Muhammad Aswari Lotpi, and Aisar Azim Abdullah – died as a result of the collision.

Family members of the victims expressed deep frustration over the ruling, with one mother saying the sentence could not restore what had been lost. - June 24, 2026
