THE Registrar of Societies (ROS) is currently reviewing an application by Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM) to change its name to Parti Wawasan Negara, says Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
The Opposition Leader and party president said the proposed new name was deemed suitable as it is not currently used by any other political party, though its approval remains subject to scrutiny by the authorities.
He said the decision to rebrand the party had been reached unanimously by its members following internal consultations.
“The change from PCM to Wawasan Negara is the will of the members; it was approved unanimously,” BH quoted him saying during a press conference at the Opposition Leader’s office in Bukit Tunku on Thursday.
“ROS is reviewing the matter. If the name Wawasan Negara is similar to any other party, then it will not be permitted. However, I believe the name is suitable and has not been used,” he said.
He emphasised that the exercise did not involve any amendment to the party constitution, describing it as a rebranding initiative rather than structural or ideological change.
“What we are doing today follows the party’s existing constitution. Only the name and branding are being changed; everything else remains intact,” he said, adding, “Do not suggest that we are arbitrarily changing or rewriting the constitution.”
“What we are trying to do is provide a platform for all Malaysians to work together in accordance with the Federal Constitution,” he said.
In a related development, the party confirmed it will not contest the upcoming Johor state election scheduled for July 11, but will instead concentrate on the Negeri Sembilan polls.
Hamzah said the decision not to contest in Johor did not amount to a withdrawal of political support for candidates in the state.
“Not contesting Johor does not mean we will not support any candidates. We will extend support to selected candidates,” he said.
He added that further details on the party’s political alignment would be disclosed after discussions at the Perikatan Nasional Supreme Council meeting.
“That will be announced after the Supreme Council meets, where we will decide which candidates we will support,” he said. - June 25, 2026
