MALAYSIA has recorded a significant achievement at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and Market (MIFA) 2026 after securing RM249.2 million in investment and sales value through its participation, surpassing the initial RM100 million target announced earlier.
The milestone reflects the effectiveness of the government’s strategy in strengthening Malaysia’s position as a competitive regional hub for animation, intellectual property (IP) development and creative content production on the international stage.
Malaysia’s participation was led by the Ministry of Communications in collaboration with the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), involving 11 local animation companies that showcased the country’s creative capabilities, original intellectual properties and industry expertise to global players.
Throughout MIFA 2026, Malaysian companies secured potential collaborations covering various areas, including co-productions, animation services, creative content investment, IP distribution, new project development and the entry of international productions into Malaysia through the Film in Malaysia Incentive (FIMI).
The achievement highlights growing international recognition and confidence in Malaysian animation content, while demonstrating global investors’ and strategic partners’ trust in the country’s creative talent, innovation and expanding creative industry ecosystem.
The Ministry of Communications, in a statement on Thursday, said it remains committed to advancing Malaysia’s creative sector through strategic partnerships with government agencies and industry players, in line with the MADANI Government’s aspiration to position the creative economy as a key contributor to national economic growth.
The success at MIFA 2026 further reinforces Malaysia’s potential to attract international investment, develop homegrown intellectual property and expand its footprint in the global animation and creative content market. - July 9, 2026
