A FOUL odour coming from an apartment unit in Ampangan led to the discovery of the decomposed body of a 40-year-old woman who is believed to have died several days earlier while living alone.

Seremban district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Yatim Osman said police responded to a public report at about 5.40 p.m. on Sunday after residents noticed an unpleasant smell coming from the apartment.

Officers, assisted by the Seremban Fire and Rescue Department, forced entry into the unit and found the woman deceased inside.

"Police received a report and information from members of the public regarding an unpleasant smell coming from a residential unit at the location before rushing to the scene together with the Seremban Fire and Rescue Department to carry out an inspection.

"The house was opened with the assistance of the Fire and Rescue Department, and police found the woman, who is believed to have died five to six days earlier. There were no signs of a struggle, criminal elements or evidence of forced entry at the scene," he said in a statement on Monday.

The deceased, who was understood to be a Muslim convert with a history of medical conditions, had been living alone in the apartment.

Mohd Yatim said a medical officer confirmed the woman's death at the scene before her body was transported to the Forensic Unit at Rembau Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

"The case has been classified as a sudden death report (SDR), and investigations are continuing pending the outcome of the post-mortem examination," he said.

Police have appealed to anyone with information related to the incident to contact the Seremban District Police Headquarters or the nearest police station. - July 13, 2026
