IPOH – The crime index in Perak has dropped by 31% throughout last year compared with the same period in 2019 due to continued enforcement and monitoring by the police.
Perak police chief Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said a total of 3,388 cases were recorded last year compared with 4,911 in 2019, a decline of 1,523 cases.
“This places the Perak police contingent in second position after Sabah in the crime index ranking and second place behind Melaka with the highest solving rate,” he said at a press conference after the monthly assembly at the Perak police contingent headquarters here today.
Mior said 2,598 property crime cases were reported last year compared with 3,810 in 2019, while 790 violent crimes were recorded, dropping from 1,101 cases in the same period last year.
Meanwhile, he said a total of 39 false reports were received statewide throughout last year, 24 of which were charged in court under Section 182 of the Penal Code, 11 are still under investigation and four cases classified as no further action, he said. – Bernama, January 5, 2021
