POLICE in Tawau have obtained a seven-day remand order against a senior citizen to assist in investigations involving the alleged rape of a disabled teenage girl.

The remand order was granted by Tawau High Court Deputy Registrar Safiyatun Ahmadun after considering an application by Inspector Vun Yu Wei from the Tawau District Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Division.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the 15-year-old victim did not know the suspect prior to the incident, having only met him earlier that day at a commercial premises in the town centre.

The suspect reportedly approached the teenager and offered her employment selling clothes at a night market.

He then allegedly persuaded her to enter his vehicle under the pretext of introducing her to the employer, but instead drove her to a lodging facility.

Acting Tawau District Police Chief, Superintendent Wilynton Enchana Watt, confirmed that the suspect was subsequently apprehended during a raid at a residential property in Kampung Ranggu, Mile 10, Jalan Apas.

The arrest followed a police report lodged after the victim complained of physical pain.

"The victim was taken to Tawau Hospital for a medical examination, where doctors confirmed that she is believed to have been raped," Superintendent Wilynton said in a statement.

"The victim is a person with disabilities who suffers from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder," he added.

Superintendent Wilynton noted that information gathered during the initial probe led to the swift detention of the suspect, and the case is being investigated under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code.

Police have also seized several items connected to the investigation, including clothing and other personal effects. - July 18, 2026
